For some financial institutions in Canada, you may notice two different types of emails referenced in your app: your banking email and your Interac funding email. Although they may be the same in some cases, they serve different purposes. This article explains what each one means and why they matter.
What Is Your Banking Email?
Your banking email is the email address you use with your bank for receiving notifications, statements, or logging into online banking.
It is linked directly to your bank account profile at your financial institution.
Used For:
- Bank alerts and notifications
- Receiving statements or updates from your bank
- General communication from your financial institution
This email is not necessarily used for transactions unless you have also set it as your Interac address.
What Is Your Interac Funding Email?
Your Interac funding email is the specific email you add and verify inside your banking app to send e-transfers that fund your CAD wallet.
Switch Hub needs this email to validate that:
The money you send is coming from your own bank account, and
The funds can be safely credited to your wallet without delay.
Used For:
- Sending Interac e-transfers to fund your CAD wallet
- Verifying ownership of the bank account used to deposit into Switch Hub
- Faster deposit processing (3–5 minutes after verification)
This is the only email Switch Hub uses to match your incoming e-transfer to your account.
Why the Difference Matters
1. Security & Compliance
Verifying your Interac funding email ensures deposits are coming from accounts you own. This protects you from fraud and helps Switch Hub meet Canadian regulatory requirements.
2. Faster Deposit Crediting
Using a verified Interac funding email ensures your deposits reflect quickly (usually within minutes).
Deposits from unverified emails will be delayed.
3. Avoiding Failed or Delayed Funding
If you send a deposit from an email not added to your Interac funding emails list, processing will take longer and may require manual review.
Do They Have to Be the Same Email?
No.
Your banking email and Interac funding email can be the same, but they do not have to be.
You only need to verify the email(s) you use when sending Interac transfers.
